Serious about earning while working at the comforts of your home? If your answer is yes, the following tips will help you get your first job:

  1. Create a complete profile. You'll do the same if you were applying for a job at an office or at a local company, right?
  2. Upload your photo. This is entirely optional, but since you will be working far away from the ones who will hire you, employers/buyer tend to be more interested in working with people who seem "more real". Many oDesk providers attest to the fact that they get more interviews after they have uploaded their pictures.
  3. Take the oDesk Readiness Test. This is required for you to get started. It's easy and it's open book. The answers are all in the Help/Resources area. This is oDesk's way of making sure that you already know what you are doing and that you are ready to take your first job. You can also take other tests so you have proof of your skills (This one's optional but very helpful.)
  4. Apply, apply, apply for jobs. There is no cost to applying for jobs. Choose the one's you like, then apply. You'll never get hired if you don't apply. And, don't get discouraged by rejections. In fact, you'll probably get more rejections than invitations for interview. So what? Just keep on applying and if you have the right skills for the job, you might just get invited for an interview.
